Topiks — Terms of Service
Last updated: 13 June 2026
1. Who we are
Topiks is operated by MBI Tech SRL, a company registered in Belgium under company number BE1005578709 ("MBI Tech", "we", "us").
You can reach us at [email protected]. This address is valid for support questions and for legal notices.
2. What these Terms cover
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are a contract between you and MBI Tech. They govern your use of Topiks (the "Service"): the Topiks application available at topiks.news, the Topiks account and sign-in site at identity.topiks.news, and any related services we provide under the Topiks name. One account and one set of Terms cover all of them.
By creating a Topiks account or using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. It is a separate document, but we point to it from these Terms where relevant.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you are legally capable of entering into this contract.
4. What Topiks is
Topiks is a personalized news feed for entertainment. You choose the shows, games, people, companies, and other topics you care about, configure what kinds of coverage get through, and Topiks builds a feed of news articles about them. Every article in your feed comes with an explanation of why it appeared, and your feedback refines the feed over time.
A few things you should understand about how the Service works:
- We aggregate; publishers publish. The articles in your feed are written and published by third-party news outlets. Topiks shows you the article's headline, a summary, and an image where available, and links you to the publisher's own website to read the full article. The articles themselves are not our content (see Section 9).
- Your feed is built automatically. Articles are selected, matched to topics, categorized, and ranked by automated systems, including AI models. We work hard to make this accurate, but automated classification is not perfect: an article may be matched to the wrong topic, sorted into the wrong kind of news, missed entirely, or ranked in a way you disagree with. The Service comes with no guarantee of completeness, accuracy, or editorial curation of the news it surfaces.
- Spoiler Protection is best-effort. It relies on the same automated detection, which can miss a spoiler or cover an article that contains none. It meaningfully reduces spoiler risk; it cannot eliminate it, and we do not guarantee it will catch everything.
- We are not the author of the news. We do not verify, endorse, or take responsibility for the factual accuracy of articles written by publishers, and the presence of an article in your feed is not an endorsement of its content.
5. Your account
To use Topiks you need an account. You can sign up and sign in with an email address and password, a magic link sent to your email, or a supported third-party sign-in provider (currently Google, Facebook, and X).
You agree to:
- provide accurate account information and keep it up to date;
- keep your credentials confidential and not share your account with others;
- tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. An account is personal: one account per person, and it may not be sold or transferred.
If you want us to delete your account, contact us at [email protected]. Account deletion ends this contract (see Section 12).
6. Free trial
New accounts get a 15-day free trial with full access to the Service. The trial:
- requires no payment details — we do not ask for a card to start it;
- converts to nothing automatically — when it ends, you are not charged, because we have nothing to charge;
- runs once per person.
When your trial ends without a subscription, access to the Service is paused. Your account, feeds, and configuration are kept so that everything is where you left it if you subscribe later. We may delete long-inactive unpaid accounts after prior notice to your email address.
7. Subscriptions, payment, and cancellation
Plans and payment
After the trial, using Topiks requires a paid subscription. We offer monthly and yearly plans — the yearly plan at a discounted rate. Current prices are shown in the Service before you subscribe. Prices include VAT where applicable.
Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment provider. Your card and payment details go directly to Stripe; we never receive or store your full payment details. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment transaction.
Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly, matching your plan) until you cancel. We will charge the payment method you registered with Stripe at each renewal.
Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you already paid for: you keep access until then, and you are simply not charged again. We do not refund partial billing periods.
The same rule applies to the yearly plan. Its discount reflects a commitment to the full year, so cancelling mid-year does not trigger a refund of the remaining months — instead, you keep full access until the end of the year you paid for.
Your statutory right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a subscription within 14 days of purchase, without giving a reason. By subscribing, you expressly request that the Service starts immediately, without waiting for that 14-day period to end. Because of this, if you withdraw within those 14 days we will refund the price minus a proportionate amount for the days of service already provided. To exercise this right, contact us at [email protected] within the 14-day period — a plain statement that you wish to withdraw is enough, or you may use the model withdrawal form provided under EU consumer law. This statutory right exists alongside — and is not limited by — the cancellation policy above.
Price changes
We may change subscription prices. If we do, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the change affects you, and the new price applies only from your next renewal. If you do not agree with the new price, cancel before the renewal and you will not be charged it.
8. No advertising, no tracking
Topiks is funded by subscriptions — not by advertising and not by your data. As a matter of principle, and by deliberate choice:
- the Service contains no advertising;
- we use no third-party advertising or tracking technologies;
- we do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
If this ever changes for a future version of the Service, it will only happen through an explicit update to these Terms and the Privacy Policy, notified to you in advance under Section 15.
9. Third-party content and intellectual property of publishers
The news articles surfaced in the Service — their headlines, text, summaries, and images — are the property of their respective publishers or licensors. Topiks displays limited excerpts and links to the publisher's original page; the full article lives on, and is read on, the publisher's own website, under the publisher's own terms.
All trademarks, show titles, game titles, names, and likenesses that appear in the Service belong to their respective owners. Their appearance in Topiks is purely referential — it identifies what the news is about and does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.
The catalog of shows, games, and esports in the Service is built with metadata from third-party data providers, including TMDB, IGDB, and PandaScore. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. The full list of providers and their credits is available in our Credits page.
If you are a publisher or rights holder and believe content is displayed in the Service in a way that infringes your rights, contact us at [email protected] with details and we will review it promptly.
10. Your content and feedback
Topiks involves little content from you, but some: the names and icons you give your feeds, your topic selections and coverage settings, article links you submit, your viewing progress, and the feedback you give on articles and topics.
You keep ownership of anything you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, and display it for the purpose of operating and improving the Service — that is what lets us store your feed configuration, act on your feedback, and process the article links you submit. This license ends when the content is deleted, except where retention is required by law.
You must have the right to submit what you submit, and feed names, icons, and other visible content must not be unlawful, infringing, or abusive.
Separately, if you send us suggestions or ideas about the Service, we may use them freely and without obligation to you.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything unlawful;
- probe, attack, overload, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure;
- access the Service by automated means (scraping, bots, bulk downloading) other than through interfaces we provide for that purpose;
- attempt to bypass access restrictions, subscription gates, or usage limits;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or copy the Service or substantial parts of its catalog or feed data, except where the law expressly permits it;
- resell, rent, or commercially redistribute the Service or its content;
- create accounts by automated means or under false identities.
We may suspend or terminate accounts engaged in these behaviors (see Section 12).
12. Termination and suspension
By you: you may stop using the Service at any time. If you want us to delete your account, contact us at [email protected]. Account deletion does not entitle you to a refund of the current billing period (Section 7 applies).
By us: we may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms, if we are legally required to, or if your use creates security or operational risk for the Service or other users. Unless the breach is severe or the law prevents it, we will notify you and, where the issue is fixable, give you a chance to fix it first. If we terminate your paid subscription without cause, we will refund the unused portion of the period you paid for.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. The handling and deletion of your personal data after termination is described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Changes and availability of the Service
Topiks is constantly evolving. We may add, change, or remove features as the Service develops. If a change materially reduces what you reasonably bought as a paying subscriber, we will inform you in advance, and if you object, you may cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of the remainder of your billing period.
We aim to keep the Service available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, technical incidents, or factors outside our control (including outages at the publishers whose feeds we ingest) can cause downtime or gaps in news coverage.
14. Disclaimers and liability
To the extent permitted by law — and never limiting the rights that Belgian and EU consumer law guarantee you — the Service is provided as available. We do not warrant that the news in your feed is complete or accurate, that automated classification (including Spoiler Protection, Section 4) is error-free, or that the Service is available without interruption.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded — including our liability for fraud, intentional fault, or gross negligence. Beyond that, we are liable only for foreseeable damage directly caused by our breach of these Terms, and our total aggregate liability is limited to the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you are a consumer, none of this reduces the mandatory rights the consumer law of your country of residence grants you.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service, the law, or our business model evolves. For material changes, we will notify you at least 30 days before they take effect — by email and/or a notice in the Service. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you may cancel your subscription before they take effect; continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept them. The current version is always available in the Service, and we will keep the "Last updated" date at the top accurate.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Belgian law. If you are a consumer, you additionally keep the protection of any mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence.
If you have a problem, please contact us first at [email protected] — most issues are solved fastest that way.
If we cannot resolve a dispute together, you may bring it before the competent Belgian courts; if you are a consumer, you may instead choose the courts of your own country of residence where the law gives you that right. Consumers in Belgium may also contact the Consumer Mediation Service (Consumentenombudsdienst / Service de Médiation pour le Consommateur, consumentenombudsdienst.be) for out-of-court dispute resolution.
17. Final provisions
- Severability. If a provision of these Terms is found invalid, the rest remains in force, and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its intent.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the Service, with notice to you.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the subscription details presented at purchase, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
- Translations. These Terms may be made available in other languages for convenience. The English version prevails if versions diverge.
